Surrounded by picturesque backwaters on one side and dense green forests on the other, the Ashramam Picnic village is one of the primary recreation centres in Kollam. It lies on a sprawling Guest House campus and covers a large area of 48 acre. The massive campus of the picnic village is also home to Children's Traffic Park and Adventure Park. The District Tourism Promotion Council organises backwater cruises in traditional houseboats, which make for a truly blissful experience. Visitors can undertake boat rides on luxury cruise boats, power boats and motor boats that can be hired from boat jetty near the adventure park. If you are an art lover, you should head to the Paramparya Museum on the same campus. The museum houses a rare collection of warli, kalamkari and Madhubani paintings along with some fine artefacts that depict authentic Kerala mural art. The two-centuries-old government guest house at the village is noted for its splendid architecture.
