Located 20 km from the steel city of Jamshedpur, Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the catchment area of Subarnarekha River and is spread over an area of 193 sq km. Its undulating terrain with high hillocks, plateau, deep valley and open fields between hillocks, provides natural habitat for diverse flora and fauna.
Apart from the famed elephants, the sanctuary has barking deer, wild bears, sloth beer, porcupines, leopard, tigers, giant squirrels, monkeys, langurs and several species of birds, including peacocks. The steep slopes of Dalma are a trekker’s delight. Small hideouts have been made at several places in the sanctuary where one can see wilds animals in their natural habitat.
