Tourism Ministry signs MoU with Ministry of Civil Aviation

Union Ministry of Tourism signed an MoU with Ministry of Civil Aviation here today to promote more synergy between both the Ministries for effectively positioning India as a preferred tourism destination in the tourist generating markets overseas.The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Tourism Minister, Shri Subodh Kant Sahai and Union Civil Aviation Minister Shri Ajit Singh.

Speaking on the occasion Union Tourism Minister Shri Subodh Kant Sahai said conversion with Civil Aviation Ministry is very important for developing tourism in the country and abroad. This will help in effectively branding India as a major tourist destination. Union Civil Aviation Minister Shri Ajit Singh expressed his happiness on the formalization of relationship between both the Ministries through the MoU. He said good future of civil aviation in the country largely depends on tourism .

Aviation is a major driver for development of Tourism and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Ministry of Tourism have decided to work together towards the common objective of brand positioning and effective promotion for enhancing tourism in India and abroad.

The MoU aims at effectively promoting tourism by leveraging the promotional opportunities provided at airports and aircraft. The MoU uses the media of Civil Aviation to promote the “Incredible India” brand so as to achieve the common objective of achieving more tourist movements in the country.

As per the MoU, the Airport Authority of India will provide space at various airports for “Incredible India” branding by Ministry of Tourism, at nominal cost, even if such services have been outsourced to private agencies. In the case of new private airports a clause will be inserted in the agreement for this purpose. Branding space will be offered at prominent locations in the Arrival Hall, near the luggage belts in the Arrival Lounge and in the Departure Hall, in different sizes, in consultation with Ministry of Tourism. Preferably, at least one space of 30’ x 7’ may be provided for branding in big halls.

Instructions will be issued by Ministry of Civil Aviation to Foreign/Indian Carriers for screening Incredible India promotional films on their flights, after take off and before landing on both inbound and outbound flights. Ministry of Tourism will provide the promotional films to be screened to the airlines.

Ministry of Civil Aviation will take up with Indian Carriers for display of the Incredible India logo on all their aircraft. Ministry of Tourism will provide the design for this purpose. Both the Ministries will participate in the Road shows and events organized by each other. For this purpose, both the Ministries will share with each other the annual calendar of such Road shows and events. Participation in the Road shows and events will be finalized by the two Ministries on mutually agreed terms.

Marketing and promotion will be undertaken by Ministry of Tourism for promoting some of the newly upgraded airports such as Aurangabad, Udaipur, Varanasi and Madurai. Ministry of Tourism will participate by hiring space in “India Aviation” being organized by Ministry of Civil Aviation . Participation in the event will be finalized on mutually agreeable terms.

Ministry of Civil Aviation will collaborate with Ministry of Tourism to take forward the “Campaign Clean India”. Ministry of Civil Aviation will take adequate steps to ensure cleanliness in and around all airports in the country and at areas in and around their office premises in various locations of the country. Similar instructions will be issued by Ministry of Civil Aviation to concerned agencies in the case of new private airports. Tourism Ministry will provide training to airport staff in this regard, where required, at locations to be mutually decided by the two Ministries.

The Ministry of Tourism has been actively promoting ‘Incredible India’ as a brand which is now recognized worldwide. Now it is felt that the outreach of the campaign needs to be further expanded, through enhanced visibility, pooling of resources and combined efforts. The Ministry has already successfully collaborated with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council for dovetailing their promotional efforts with the Incredible India Campaign.
