Located in Varanasi, one of the most sacred cites in the world, the Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the 12 jyotirlinga sites. A journey to this sacred shrine, dedicate to Lord Shiva, worshipped here as Vishweshwara or Vishwanath (Lord of the Universe), is a pilgrimage that every Hindu cherishes to make.
Varanasi, commonly known as Benares, comes lauded as being one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Situated on the western bank of India's holiest river Ganges, this holiest shrine in its present shape was built by Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore. In 1839, two domes of the Temple were covered by gold, donated by the great Sikh leader Maharaja Ranjeet Singh.
