The place is famous for a Tibetan settlement. During the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1959, these Tibetan refugees crossed over to India along with the Dalai Lama and were allotted this spot. Since then they have settled here and for a living weave carpets. The newly built monastery is the biggest in Asia.
