The village is nested in an idyllic setting and offers a scenic adventure.; perched on a hill, it is surrounded by ponds, the coastline and the coral reefs. The tourist attractions of Kazhugumalai are of interest for pilgrims, tourists and scholars alike. The 8th century Jain rock carvings found here have made the village an important Jain pilgrim center. The Jain ascetic, Gunasagara Bhattara, is said to have lived on this hilltop. A bas-relief belonging to this period provides information about the religion and its followers.
