Masi Magam: This annual festival takes place on the full moon day of the Tamil month of Masi (February-March). Deities from as many as 38 temples in and around Puducherry are brought in ceremonial processions to the seashore for a symbolic immersion ceremony. Thousands of people go to the seashore to have a dip in the sea which done on that day is said to wash away one's sins.
Villianur Car Festival: The car festival is celebrated at Lord Thirukameeswarar Temple in Villianur, 10 km from Puducherry.
Fire Walking Festival: Three or four times a year, local temples hold festivals with hundreds of men, women and children walking on fire for the fulfilment of their vows.
Veerapattinam Car Festival: 6 km south of Puducherry is the Chengazhunir Amman Temple in the coastal village of Veerapattinam, which is the venue for the annual Car Festival which takes place on the fifth Friday of the Tamil month of Adi or in the following month of Avani (July-August).
International Yoga Festival in January: Every year from January 4 to 7, yogis and yoginis from across the world congregate in Puducherry to exchange ideas and ways. Various live shows and talks are organised through Indian dances, music and various Indian yogic food.
French Food Festival: Gourmet, a food festival to celebrate French cuisine, is organised by the Tourism Department every August.
