Nanda Devi National Park:
The beautiful surroundings with abundant flora and fauna like Brahma-Kamal and Bharal (blue mountain goat) make this a sanctuary of nature.
In 1982 access to trekkers into the Nanda Devi National Park was banned to protect its biodiversity. The Nanda Devi National Park, which has been declared a world heritage site, has been partially opened recently for restricted number of tourist.
Sir Edmund Hillary, in his autobiography, has described that the “Nanda Devi Sanctuary is God-gifted wilderness-India’s-training ground for adventure”
Nanda Devi National Park is Home to a wide variety of flora. Some 312 floral species that include 17 rare species have been found here. Fir, birch, rhododendron, and juniper are the main floral species.
Vegetation is scarce In the inner sanctuary due to the dryness of the conditions. You won’t find vegetation near Nanda Devi Glacier. Ramani, alpine, prone mosses and lichens are other notable floral species foud in Nanda Devi National Park.
You can spot in Nanda Devi National Park a good variety of species including like bharal, Himalayan tahr, goral, serow, snow leopard, brown bear, Himalayan black bear, leopard, Himalayan musk deer, common langur and brown beer.
Some 80 species of avian population been have been identified. Important ones are gresbreaks, Warblers, rose finches and ruby throat that can be commonly seen here.
