Dilli Haat

“Haat” is a market place, and the delightful Dilli Haat and Craft Bazaar , situated in the heart of Delhi, offers a single point glimpse of the traditional weekly market in villages, complete with crafts, food and cultural activities. In doing so, it becomes a microcosm of the rural experience for an urban audience. Imaginative landscaping and traditional architectural styles combine to create a charming ambience across the six acre area of 65 stalls, where craftsmen, NGOs and artisans come and go on a rotational basis. No visit to Dilli Haat is quite like any other visit – each time there are new artefacts to see and purchase, new cultural performances to watch, and new gastronomic delights to savour – the food court is the venue for many a regional food festival, serving up a range of ethnic cuisines, hygienically prepared. Best of all, you buy directly from the producers, so you get authentic wares at prices that have not been inflated by middlemen. For the sellers too, it is a winning situation, since they get a better price for their wares.

Festivals are organised every month, in collaboration with State Tourism Corporations. These include the following:

SpicMacay Folk Festival in January
Id in February
Jammu & Kashmir Festival in March
Baisakhi in April
Sharbat Festival in May
Dilli Ka Khaana in June
Teej in July-August
Onam and Ganesh Utsav in September
Navratri & Diwali in October/November
Winter Carnival and Dilli Utsav in December

Dilli Haat is a joint project of Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation and the New Delhi Municipal Corporation, with the support of the Ministry of Textiles. Now in its 10th year, it is a fine example of the bureaucracy joining hands for the benefit of society.
